Residence- and Citizenship-by-Investment in 2020

This presentation, made at the Investment Migration Council (IMC) Forum, in June 2018, was an opportunity for Dr. Kälin to look ahead towards the future landscape of residence- and citizenship-by-investment. After taking stock of the progress of the industry from niche to mainstream over the past decade, Kälin goes on to predict the further normalization of the concept of citizenship-by-investment. As people begin to conceptualize their relationship to the state as contractual, rather than ordained, he predicts that people will seek to have more agency over what their citizenship status looks like.
