Selling Citizenship Is Big Business — And Controversial

As the migration investment industry has expanded, it has attracted its share of interest — not only from potential clients, but from the European Union and the British Parliament too. Part of the reason for this interest is that any European country granting national citizenship, is also granting visa-free access to the Schengen Zone. As stated in this article from the Economist, it should be the prerogative of the entire industry to ensure that self-regulation and robust due diligence processes keep the industry free from criminality and fraudsters seeking to abuse the system. As Henley & Partners’ Chairman, Christian Kälin, says: “the industry [sees] regulation as both inevitable and welcome.”
