This article, published by the Economist, gives a balanced account of the citizenship-by-investment industry, including both the motivations for individuals seeking to expand their travel freedom and security, and for host nations looking to secure additional funds that can be used to support societal developments and fiscal sovereignty. As the article states, there are more than a dozen countries currently offering citizenship-by-investment and around 100 offering residence-by-investment. Inevitably, as with any transnational financial instrument, the industry will attract both good (the vast majority) and bad (a tiny minority) customers. It is in every honest broker’s interest to make sure the crooks do not get through the door.
